Junior Data Scientist (Part-Time)

The ScholCommLab is seeking a junior data scientist to assist our multidisciplinary research team with data collection, manipulation, and analysis on a variety of projects. The data scientist will support the lab’s work in several ways, including (but not limited to) assisting in creating web crawlers, retrieving data from web APIs, transforming data for further analysis, and more.

This is a part-time position (estimated 1 day per week) with a flexible schedule, ideally suited for a student with an interest in scholarly communications, social media, or open science. Compensation is $25/hour.

Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Experience working with Python’s basic data science stack, including Python, Pandas, and plotting libraries (e.g., matplotlib, seaborn, etc)
  • Experience working with web APIs
  • Experience working in a team

Desirable Skills/Qualifications

  • Experience working with large databases
  • Experience with network analysis (creating, handling, analyzing, visualizing)
  • Web development skills
  • Interest or experience in scholarly communications, social media, and/or open science
  • Familiarity with using Slack and the Google Suite

The ScholCommLab is an interdisciplinary team of researchers based in Vancouver and Ottawa interested in all aspects of scholarly communication.
