Eric Schares (he/him) is the Engineering & Collection Analysis Librarian at Iowa State University, and a Research Associate at the ScholCommLab. He works to analyze publishing trends at Iowa State and beyond to support the open access transition in scholarly publishing.

Eric’s research focuses on scholarly communication, open science, and open access. He has published on the use of scholarly metadata, impacts of the 2022 White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP memo), and making collection development decisions using the tool Unsub.

Prior to his current role at Iowa State, Eric was an engineer at Intel for 10 years working on NAND flash memory.
