Heather Woods, a scholarly communications lab member, poses in front of her bookshelf

Heather Woods (she/her) is a part-time professor and doctoral candidate, under the supervision of Dr. David Smith, in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa. Her work explores how social and emotional learning is enacted and evolves within Canadian schools through research, policy, and practice. She is also a member of the Digital Equity Research Team, with Dr. Megan Cotnam-Kappel and Dr. Michelle Schira-Hagerman. This research explores teachers’ and youths’ use of technologies within and outside of the classroom and ways in which we can better support digital literacies and digital access within Canada.

Through her research career, Heather has developed a keen interest in how open research, publishing, science communication, and open educational resources can address barriers to education and professional development and make research and academia more equitable. Heather shares her research work openly at sel-in-action.com.
